David Worldorf is the 28-year-old founder and CEO of versus, the prediction market platform he single-handedly built over two and a half years. Launched mid-June 2026 under a UK Gambling Commission licence and now available natively in eight countries on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, versus fuses a free, fully ad-free verified news experience called versus Pulse, hand-curated social commentary from X and Reddit, a proprietary AI research assistant called versus AI, and real-money prediction markets across culture, politics, finance, entertainment, crypto, sports and much more.
At a $10.6 million valuation following its first investment, versus stands out as the regulated, fiat-native mainstream alternative to offshore, crypto-native platforms. With Apple Pay, identity verification and the broadest licence footprint of any operator, it brings prediction markets into the regulated consumer space.
In this interview David Worldorf shares the solo journey, the trademark battles, the innovative safety architecture he engineered himself, and why regulation and user education are the future of the category.
Can you tell us about your background and what led you to start versus?
Two and a half years ago I had no idea that Polymarket or Kalshi even existed. The question why something like this does not already exist came from friends and potential investors as well. I started with wireframes, hired seven UI designers one after another, but had to let every single one go because none could capture the vision I saw in my head. So I taught myself UI/UX and spent nine months building an interface that, even today, feels ahead of its time. That interface work was later recognised with three CSS Awards in 2026, an Innovation Award and two UI/UX awards.
Later I learned to build websites, handled all financials, wrote the entire iOS Swift app and backend myself. I even secured the versus trademark entirely myself, handling the whole process without outside lawyers. Every step was solo: marketing, pitch decks, business plans, investor outreach. The product carries so much of my personal identity that, looking back, this is the first time I can honestly say I am proud of my work. I hope the energy I poured into versus brings at least a little joy to our users.
What does versus do, and who do you help?
versus is a single native app that brings together verified news through versus Pulse, real conversation, powerful AI research and regulated prediction markets. versus Pulse is our free, fully ad-free news experience with hand-selected posts and articles written by hand, without AI, by a team that lives for journalism. Every story includes hand-curated top posts from X and Reddit with comments and engagement. versus AI acts as an active research terminal that answers any question on the story with live data.
The prediction markets cover culture, politics, finance, entertainment, crypto, sports and much more. We will launch with over 1K+ markets. We help everyone from those who simply want verified news and want to understand the world to those who want to debate, research and take informed positions. In many countries where we are not yet active with the full platform, we still offer our implemented versus Pulse news product with free AI. The news side is completely free worldwide in all app stores, with no costs and no prediction market integration required. That is part of our mission to educate people and give them real news and facts in the age of AI.
What problem in the market are you solving?
The prediction market category was long dominated by offshore, crypto-native platforms that were either unavailable or heavily restricted in major regulated markets like the UK. Users faced friction with wallets and anonymity concerns, while operators struggled with market integrity. At the same time, legacy news is fragmented, paywalled or optimised for engagement rather than accuracy.
versus solves both. We created a fully regulated, fiat-native platform that makes prediction markets accessible, safe and trustworthy for everyday users.
What makes versus different from platforms like Polymarket?
versus is the regulated, legal alternative built specifically for markets like the UK. We hold a full UK Gambling Commission operating licence and a Tobique Gaming Commission licence (Pre-Approved), giving us the broadest jurisdictional footprint of any operator. We are fiat-native from day one, with Apple Pay, debit cards and e-wallets. No cryptocurrency required.
More importantly, versus is not just a market. It is a complete intelligence platform: versus Pulse, versus AI, curated social commentary and regulated markets in one app. We also launch versus Academy eight weeks after the platform, a free, expert-led education programme on foresight and decision-making. Most operators profit from user losses. We refuse to. Educated users create better markets and a healthier industry.
What trends are you seeing in prediction markets and fintech right now?
Prediction markets are moving from niche experiments to a recognised asset class. Major news outlets already cite market odds in their reporting, and the volume is growing fast. At the same time, regulation is catching up. Consumers demand safer, more transparent products after years of offshore anonymity and crypto friction.
The biggest trend is the convergence of news, AI and financial forecasting. Platforms that integrate all three layers under proper regulation will win. versus was built for exactly that future.
How is technology, particularly AI, shaping the future of prediction markets?
AI is the biggest change. versus AI is a proprietary in-house research terminal, not a generic chatbot. On every news story, users can ask any question and get live data, historical context and analytical framing that often hasn’t made it into published articles yet.
This closes the information asymmetry that traditional operators have always exploited. Better-informed users create more accurate markets and better long-term outcomes. AI turns passive news consumption into active research and decision-making.
What has been one of the biggest lessons from building versus?
Constraints are the best design specification. I engineered the entire UKGC licence architecture myself, over 200 pages, with innovative ways to protect vulnerable users, prevent manipulation and stop insider trading while creating the fairest possible space. The UKGC granted the licence with not a single small improvement needed to my design. That taught me that regulation is not a barrier, it is a moat and a trust signal.
Building everything solo also showed me that one determined founder who refuses to outsource the hard parts can ship something far more coherent and powerful than a committee-built product.
What’s next for versus?
Eight weeks after launch we roll out versus Academy, a completely free education programme built with industry experts to improve users’ foresight and decision-making skills. We are already available in the UK, Canada, LatAm and parts of Europe and will continue expanding. The long-term vision is simple: become the single place where people understand the world, research it, debate it and act on it responsibly.
We welcome everyone, including those who simply want to experience verified news and understand the world through versus Pulse. The pure news app will be available worldwide in all app stores, without ads, without costs and without prediction market integration. That belongs to our mission: to educate people and give them real news and facts in the age of AI.
What advice would you give to other founders building in fintech or regulated technologies?
Treat regulation as a feature, not an obstacle. Build for the mainstream consumer from day one. Own every layer you possibly can. And never treat user losses as a business model. If you educate your users and give them better tools, both the financial outcome and the ethical outcome improve together.
